Salma Hayek: Every woman is strong

Salma Hayek thinks that "every woman is strong".

The 54-year-old actress is known for playing "strong" female characters, but she insists it is not a conscious decision to pursue particular roles.

She explained: "I don't think about it much, but I think I gravitate towards them naturally. It's not that I say 'if she's not a strong woman, I'm not going to play.'

"Because you know what? I think every woman is strong, I think every woman is strong in different ways."

In her new movie 'Bliss', Salma's character tries to convince a man that she lives in a simulation.

The actress character is portrayed as either a d ** g addict or a groundbreaking scientist in the film, and she enjoyed the challenge.

Speaking to the Sky News 'Backstage' podcast, the Hollywood star shared: "I like the uniqueness, I love the prospect of playing two strong female leads in a movie.

"I can play two characters and two characters that I never played, neither of them. But I liked that she was bossy."

Salma also thinks that the themes of the film have echoed in our lives since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The veteran actress noted that people have become increasingly dependent on technology since the onset of the global health crisis.

Salma, who stars in the film alongside Owen Wilson, said: "When we came out [from filming] and I was reading articles and everything and everything, my whole universe, everyone started to change.

"We've all been through a tunnel of uncertainty, you know, and I started to see how everyone started to create their own 'Bliss' world through technology at home, where they could escape.

"And that became everyone's reality for this moment as a coping mechanism."
