WHO provides technical and operational support to Pakistan for COVID-19 preparedness

The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided technical and operational support to the Government of Pakistan for preparedness and response to a COVID-19 pandemic at points of entry (POE) in accordance with the International Health Regulations (IHR).

According to WHO, the assistance included strengthening inbound and outbound detection capabilities for early detection, active case finding and referral of COVID-19 cases, including equipment, information material, education and communication (IEC ) and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The trainings were conducted at the main points of entry (POEs) for staff capacity development, focusing on guiding the emerging guidance related to COVID-19 and the implementation of national standard operating procedures derived from the technical guidelines of the WHO.

As part of the ongoing support, Dr Palitha Mahipala, WHO Representative in Pakistan, recently donated rapid COVID-19 antigen test kits to strengthen point-of-entry (POE) testing capacity to comply with new restrictions. travel for inbound passengers from the UK and South Africa to contain the spread of the new UK SARS COV2 variant.
