NC calls a meeting of all parties to forge a common strategy to challenge the government's decision to dissolve parliament

The main opposition party, the Congress of Nepal (NC) has called a meeting of all parties to forge a common strategy to fight against the "unconstitutionality" of Prime Minister K P Oli to dissolve parliament.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the North Carolina Headquarters in Sanepa at 4 pm today. North Carolina leaders said the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led faction of the Communist Party of Nepal (PNC) has also been invited to attend the meeting.

This comes a day after a joint meeting of NC, the Janata Samajbadi party and the rival faction within the NCP decided to challenge Prime Minister Oli's decision on political and legal grounds. They have already started to take to the streets against the government's controversial move.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has already dissolved the House of Representatives and set new dates for the midterm general elections in May on the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Oli.

New dates for the midterm elections have been announced for April 30 for the first phase and May 10 for the second phase of the elections.

All the opposition parties have decided to challenge the government's decision. A judicial petition has also been filed with the Supreme Court, raising doubts about its constitutional foundations.
